Wendell Dennis started his career in the arts when he started a job at the Confederation Center of the Arts in 1964. He went on to graduate in Design from the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal, Quebec. His set and costume design credits for many theatre and dance companies include numerous productions for Le Theatre du Nouveau Monde, and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
Dennis also worked as Art Director for many feature and commercial films. He taught at the Theatre Crafts at Montreal area colleges, and also taught scenic painting for several years at the National Theatre School.
Feeling the urge to paint the Maritime landscape as a full time occupation, Wendell Dennis returned to his native Prince Edward Island, in the charming community of ‘Victoria by the Sea’. He was adept in several media, including oils, acrylics, and pastels. His richly colored paintings are infused with light, and seem to glow softly from within.
